Technique

My ceramics process is a balance of traditional craftsmanship and modern experimentation. Each piece begins with a carefully selected clay body, shaped through techniques like hand-building, wheel-throwing, or slip casting, depending on the form and function I envision.

Once shaped, the pieces undergo a meticulous drying phase to ensure structural integrity before their first firing (bisque firing) at around 950–1000°C. This hardens the clay, making it ready for glazing.

I use a fine white clay with grog (chamotte), which provides a beautiful smooth finish while adding strength and texture to the forms. This choice of clay complements my glazing techniques and ensures durability in both decorative and functional pieces.

I use a mix of commercial and self-formulated glazes to create unique textures and finishes. Each glaze is applied by dipping, spraying, or brushing, allowing me to explore a range of effects from matte and earthy to glossy and vibrant.

Finally, the work undergoes a second firing (glaze firing), often at temperatures exceeding 1200°C, depending on the desired finish. For some pieces, I experiment with alternative techniques like raku firing, soda firing, or layering underglazes for intricate details.

My methods aim to combine functionality with artistic expression, resulting in ceramics that are both beautiful and purposeful.
